A Minecraft tale of friendships and anvils

Welcome to our third Minecraft Mash-Up! Each month, we’ll be taking three things from Minecraft and splicing them into a story you can tell by a camp fire, read in bed, or scroll through distractedly while waiting for a train. Can you guess which three things we’ve woven into this tall tale? You get extra points if you know which updates or drops they’re from, too! (Minecraft.net)
JJ woke to a sky the color of cotton candy and a breeze full of pink petals. The cherry trees in the grove poofed overhead like giant scoops of sherbet, and the ground was sprinkled with tiny pink petals that looked like confetti someone forgot to clean up. Which was perfect, because JJ wasn’t cleaning anything today. They were decorating! (Minecraft.net)
“Blossom Bash checklist!” JJ announced to a very uninterested chicken.
-
Collect pink petals: check
-
Make pink dye: check
-
Tune note blocks: check
-
Bake bread: check
-
Fix the anvil: …
-
Lay picnic blankets: check
-
Invite friends: check (Minecraft.net)
JJ looked at their anvil. It was very useful, slightly chipped, and dangerously close to breaking.
“A heroic party requires a heroic anvil,” JJ declared.
They opened a chest of iron, placed three iron blocks and four iron ingots, and crafted a brand-new anvil. (Minecraft.net)
CLANG.
JJ set it down.
CLANG. CLANG.
They repaired gear and renamed a banner “BLOSSOM BASH.” (Minecraft.net)
Under a cherry tree, JJ found a sign:
“Popping to the stronghold library for music books! Back soon.”
Finley (Minecraft.net)
Finley never returned.
JJ added a new item to the checklist:
-
Rescue mission (Minecraft.net)
JJ packed torches, food, pickaxe, sword and shield — and the new anvil — and followed the path to the stronghold. (Minecraft.net)
Inside the stronghold:
Stone bricks. Silence. Trouble.
JJ mined a cracked brick.
A silverfish jumped out.
“Fiddlesticks! Silverfish!” (Minecraft.net)
More skittering sounds echoed.
Then JJ heard:
“Up here!” said Finley. (Minecraft.net)
JJ entered a room.
Inside:
-
Silverfish spawner
-
Many silverfish
-
Finley stuck on a pillar (Minecraft.net)
Time for heroics.
First: light.
Torches everywhere.
Second: space.
JJ built a bridge while blocking attacks with a shield. (Minecraft.net)
Silverfish gathered below.
JJ had an idea.
“I’m going to try something that goes clang.” (Minecraft.net)
They placed an anvil above the swarm.
Knocked out the support.
The anvil fell.
KA-CHONK! (Minecraft.net)
Silverfish crushed.
Remaining ones defeated.
JJ destroyed the spawner.
Silence returned. (Minecraft.net)
Finley said:
“That was extremely clang.”
JJ bowed:
“I practice.” (Minecraft.net)
They looted the library:
-
Music books
-
String from cobwebs (Minecraft.net)
Then returned to the cherry grove.
JJ prepared the party:
-
Picnic blankets
-
Banner "BLOSSOM BASH"
-
Note blocks tuned (Minecraft.net)
Finley placed a sign:
“SILVERFISH-FREE ZONE.” (Minecraft.net)
The anvil got one last job.
JJ renamed Finley’s shield:
"Silver Slayer" (Minecraft.net)
They ate bread and berries while cherry petals fell around them.
“Thanks for the rescue,” Finley said.
“Thanks for bringing the music,” JJ answered. (Minecraft.net)
They clinked shields.
The grove glowed peacefully.
Everything felt safe again. (Minecraft.net)
